Dear friends,
The Municipality of Chania and the Region of Crete are co-organizing the 5th Chania Book Festival, which will take place from 22 to 28 June 2026, under the central theme “Worlds in Conflict”. The Festival will be held at the Venetian Harbour of the city, between the Centre for Mediterranean Architecture and the “Mikis Theodorakis” Theatre, while the official opening ceremony will take place on Monday, 22 June 2026, at the “Mikis Theodorakis” Theatre.
The Chania Book Festival is now considered one of the most important book-related events in the country, dynamically placing Chania on the Greek and international cultural map. Every year, it hosts distinguished Greek and international authors, academics, intellectuals, and artists, with more than 300 participants to date. The aim of the Festival is to promote contemporary Greek literature and thought, support new literary voices, and strengthen its international character. In this context, we invite you to actively participate by volunteering to support the implementation of this year’s programme.
To register your participation, please complete the online form by 19 June 2026. The main requirements for participation include excellent communication skills, a good command of Greek and English, and a willingness to contribute to an event dedicated to books and culture.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience by contributing to the organization and implementation of the events, undertaking tasks such as welcoming and assisting the public, supporting invited guests, and helping ensure the smooth running of the programme, always in collaboration with the Festival’s project team.
We warmly thank you for your interest and hope to have you with us at this important event, which, for the fifth consecutive year, brings together people from the worlds of books, culture, and ideas from Greece and abroad.
Sincerely,
The Municipality of Chania and the Region of Crete
